StrokeCoach

Created at Stanford’s School of Medicine, StrokeCoach is an at-home rehabilitation program that helps stroke survivors regain physical functioning. Developed as an app with Apple watch integration, my role was inform ongoing development based on industry, academic, and user research.

MY ROLE

RESEARCH
  • User: Used social media to conduct user research and evaluate both qualitative & quantitative results
  • Industry: evaluated consumer landscape, identified best practices, key features, & opportunities for improvement
  • Academic/Clinical: researched self-efficacy, behavior change theory, and mhealth engagement strategies. Identified psychometrics for baseline measurements and outcomes
  • Created Powerpoints & other documents to share findings and recommendations with team
UX/UI DESIGN
  • Created engagement strategy and content based on behavior change theory
  • Designed onboarding flow to facilitate user engagement and reduce drop out
  • Developed a decision tree to identify drop out risk and modify notifications or alert team members
  • Recommended the inclusion of peer-support and judicious use of gamification
CLINICAL RESEARCH / RECRUITMENT
  • Developed online focus group strategy to formalize user research, conduct user testing, and build a recruitment pipeline
  • Created web-based survey with REDcap to ensure secure collection of informed consent and user data
  • Submitted study protocol to Stanford’s Internal Review Board (IRB)
  • Created email recruitment template and print flyers for study recruitment
  • Identified recruitment channels (e.g., online and in-person support groups)
  • Recommended the use of CRM (e.g., MailChimp, ConstantContact) to simplify outreach for the stroke recovery group
